In 1997, I did work experience at the Grimsby Telegraph. As fortune would have it, my time there coincided with Grimsby Town visiting Liverpool in the Fourth Round of the League Cup. The next day was spent on the Sports Desk. The task was simple – match report. I ended up being named runner-up in the 1998 Philishave Young Sports Journalist competition – the only solo entrant.
